Footbridge on the River Weser

This bridge will connect Bremen City Centre and Neustadt districts via the Weser island of Stadtwerder. The structural form of the bridge evokes the sail structure of the Bremen Cog (Kogge) a trading sailboat from the Hanseatic period. The supporting structure of the bridge consists of a orthotropic plate with a curved u/side that is cable-suspended and constant over the entire length. The deck is 213 meters long & supported by stay cables, suspended from a parabolic hanging tube from a distinctive pylon mast 60m tall. The bridge deck is especially slender at 800mm depth. Complete prefabrication at a local shipyard is anticipated with the option to deliver the pre-formed elements by barge.
